Nestled in Cranbrook on Tasmania’s beautiful East Coast, Obsessionist is a boutique wine project born from experience, passion and a little bit of obsession.

Created by Lisa and Marty Smith, Obsessionist is the result of more than 20 years of experience working in vineyards and a shared desire to create something of their own. After decades spent growing grapes for others, they decided it was time to follow their passion and take a chance on something a little different.

And that something was Malbec.

While Tasmania’s cool-climate wine region is best known for varieties such as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, Lisa and Marty saw an opportunity to explore the potential of Malbec on the East Coast. With years of viticultural knowledge behind them and a healthy dose of determination, they planted a small half-hectare block on their family vineyard in Cranbrook.

It wasn’t necessarily the obvious choice, but sometimes the most exciting things come from following your instincts rather than playing it safe.

For Lisa and Marty, Malbec is more than just a grape variety. It’s an obsession, a challenge and an opportunity to see what can happen when experience meets curiosity. Their small vineyard is a chance to push the boundaries of what is traditionally grown in the region and explore how this distinctive variety responds to Tasmania’s unique coastal growing conditions.

With just half a hectare dedicated to their passion project, Obsessionist is very much a hands-on operation, where attention to detail and a deep understanding of the vineyard are at the heart of everything they do.
