Milton Vineyard’s story begins in 1826, when the property was first farmed for fine Tasmanian wool. Today, the family-run vineyard produces premium cool-climate wines from its home at 42° South on Tasmania’s dry and sunny Freycinet Coast.

Michael and Kerry Dunbabin have farmed at Milton since 1980, initially building the property into a successful Merino sheep farm alongside a diverse range of crops. Looking for a more sustainable way to farm and create something that could be taken from paddock to finished product, they turned their attention to grapes and eventually launched the Milton label in 2005.

Today, Milton has 22 hectares under vine, with Pinot Noir thriving in the vineyard’s unique microclimate alongside Syrah, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay and exciting newer plantings of Tempranillo.

Milton remains very much a family affair. Michael continues to oversee the vineyard, Kerry is a familiar face around the cellar door, son Alex works in the winery, while daughter-in-law Claire is part of the cellar door team. The family’s farming roots also continue, with son Henry and daughter-in-law Josie caring for around 3,500 sheep on the property.

The focus remains on small quantities of carefully made wines that reflect the vineyard, the season and this special part of Tasmania’s East Coast.
